Bordeaux is a port city.
It is in growing zone 8 or 9.
Jardin Botanique was built by renaissance apothecaries in 1629;
the gardens have since become home
to plants brought and traded from across the world.
Tropical plants acclimatize well.
The lavender, the rosemary tall and wide.

On sunday, in Place St. Michel,

the city gathers at the antique market.
Here too, the Islamic district, where everything remains open;
tagine and green peppermint tea; espresso
in the day's heat.
